Readings first Cock & Bull Rally 14th August 2010

Well, the day started dry but very cloudy!  After leaving the Swan we had to detour due to roadwork's, heading to Shinfield, Twyford, Henley-on-Thames, Nettlebed and on to H-cafe in Berinsfield for a brew.  Bryan discovered (thanks to a friendly biker who stopped alongside him at the traffic lights) that he had a nail in his rear tyre and so had to forego a brew and head back into Reading to replace it, hoping to join us later.  After a welcome cuppa, we headed back into Wallingford on the A4074 to Newbury via Goring.  This was an experience as Newbury Races were on and Newbury was at a standstill so we had to filter through solid traffic - very nerve-racking for some - but we all made it out the other side.  This despite the light showers!!!  From here it was onto Nelsons 50's Diner in Kingsclere for some lunch.  Bryan turned up just as lunch was being set down.  Milkshakes and food aplenty, bellies full, we then continued from here to Overton on the B3051, onto Hurstbourne Priors, Hurstbourne Tarrant (with some very tricky corners and road conditions thanks to recent rainfall), to Upton to The Swan at Lower Green Inn.  At this point the sun was out!  After refreshments we headed onto Hungerford Common where the heavens came down!  It was torrential.  Back onto the A4 to Newbury and then Brimpton where, yet again, the heavens opened, Aldermaston, Mortimer and Grazeley Green.  We all made it back to The Swan for a well-earned beer and BBQ.  Despite the weather it was a superb ride-out lead by Ian & Angie, with Bryan finishing the last leg.  Well done to all !!
