Reading Egg Run,
10.04.09
The annual Reading Easter Egg Run took place on Good
Friday, 10th April 2009. Organised by the Thames Vale Vultures Motorcycle
Club in aid of the Variety Club Children's Charity, this event attracts bikers
from all over Berkshire and surrounding areas. Reading agreed a meeting
point in Bracknell at the previous weeks branch get together, however I had
arranged to join the the West London riders at their rendezvous point in Sunbury
and bring them over to our assembly point.
At Sunbury I met up with West London members, Steve and
Maureen (GL1800), John (CB500), Jude (Kawasaki GPZ500) and Michael (CBF1000).
I (VFR750F) led the ride down the M3, encountering a fair bit of traffic, to
Bagshot, where we turned onto the A322 and headed up to Bracknell. At the
meeting point we were greeted by Taz (Varadero 1000) and Andy (VFR800F).
Once again I led the ride, proceeding up the A329 to the M4, taking the junction
11 turn off and heading up the A33 into Reading. After negotiating the
inner ring road we proceeded up the Oxford Road to Norcot Road and the assembly
point at AutoTech in Stirling Way. Here we met up with David and Di
(VTR1000) and approximately 250 other bikes
before the run began. The ride which was very well marshalled, made it's
way back into Reading along the Oxford Road and headed up through Caversham to
the Reading Abbey Rugby Club in Emmer Green. Very reasonably priced
refreshments were available here and the Easter Eggs were sorted for their
respective destinations. Over 3500 eggs were collected this year.
Two members from the TV show Gladiators were on hand to sign autographs and pose
for photographs. As we left to make our journeys home the rain which had
been on and off all day became much more persistent and made my ride home along
the M4 not particularly pleasant. By the time i arrived home my bike was
extremely filthy and in desperate need of a clean.
It was a very enjoyable day though and good to meet up
with members of West London Branch again.
