West Berkshire MAG Bike Show - 01.08.09
The weather forecast was not good for the West Berkshire MAG Bike Show in Newbury. We left home in light drizzle which soon developed into heavy rain when we joined the M4. By the time we arrived at The Blue Ball public house, the rain had all but disappeared, allowing us to erect the gazebo without getting wet. It didn't take us long to set up the HOC display allowing us to have breakfast before the show opened, with the food good and reasonably priced we were ready for the day. Unfortunately the earlier inclement weather and the forecast put off not only visitors but also traders and club stands from attending, which was a shame for the organisers who had obviously put in a lot of effort to make the day successful. As it happened the weather wasn't as bad as predicted and we were only subjected to odd periods of drizzle all day.
We had quite a few visitors to our stand and signed up two new members on the day and hopefully some more will also join as a result of our participating. We also sold some regalia which was a bonus.
Towards the end of the afternoon prizes were presented to winners in the various bike competitions. Honda did well, taking the prizes for best in show, VTX1800, best 125, Shadow and best Trike, GL1200 Aspencade. Reading HOC also picked up the prize for the best club stand and was presented with a universal joint mounted on a wooden plinth.
All in it was a fun day with a good crowd of bikers from all walks of life who share a common interest. Probably the funniest comment though came from the Thames Valley Motorcycle Officer who said that he really didn't enjoy biking.
